Anita’s Autobiography — age 9

100_4669bI found this little book last week in a box of old papers. She must have found it at her parent’s house a few years ago and then brought it home only to get lost again. It is a small, cloth covered book that she made when she was 9 years old.

My Autobiography
by Anita Parker

All About Me
My name is Anita Parker. I’m nine years old. My birthmark is near the top of my right arm. I have a scar on my left eyelid.

My nails are not very long. Not yet at least. I;m about 4 feet tall and weigh 83 pounds. My hair is black and thick. My hair is alwasy in one or two ponytails. I have a few pimples and my skin is brown. My eyes are brown. My teeth are OK. I don’t have any freckles.

I like my pants to be tight and my shirt to be baggy. I don’t have a favorite color.

I have some habits. One is that when I sit down I push my chair to the side. I always sit on my foot. I talk alot, but I also like to listen and I’m shy.

I guess I’m pretty smart. I went to kindergarden when I was 4. Well, that’s all about me.

Pupstar
I had a dog named Pupstar. It was the only real pet my family ever owned. He was a Collie and really tame. But he died.

Before we get to the sad part, I’ll tell you a little bit about him. I can’t tell you much because I was young at the time. It started out to be a birthday present for my sister, Ramona. Then it became the families. After he died my dad didn’t want to get another pet. All I can remember is that he was black and white.

We still haven’t gotten another pet but now I have some guppies. I had six but now I only have 1. They died. Well that’s me and my pets.

“The First Thing I Remember”
The first thing I remember was when my parents and my broter Eric and I went to a fair.

It was in South Carolina and about 11:00 on a hot day in summer. I forgot something at home. When we got back to our trailer, my grandfather was making me a whistle.

When we got back to the fair I got some popcorn, candy and good stuff like that. That’s the first thing I remember.

Birthdays
My favorite birthday was when I was turning eight. I got Merlin and electonic game.

My least favorite was……….I don’t think I had a least favorite.

One birthday I got a warm-up suit.

The only people that really make my birthday special is friends spend the night slumber party type.

I think getting older is neat. You get to do stuff like drive, go anywhere you want and stuff like that. My mom says when you get older you have lots of responsibilities like going to work and paying bills. I don’t think it would be that hard. Well, those are my birthdays.

Hobbies
My favorite hobbie is dancing. I like it so much because it keeps me in shape.

Other hobbies I have are singing, talking, reading and playing. I’m doing one of these things when I’m not dancing. Those are my hobbies.

I went to school with Anita from Kdg. on up through graduation from high school! I loved reading this entry – it brought me back to some of the memories that I shared with Anita! She was always one of the brightest ones in the class, she was always great at whatever she did, always very bubbly and happy! It is neat to see what was in her journal at age 9 and to know that I was a part of some of the positive things Anita wrote about, like slumber parties! Just makes me smile – I can just see her in deep thought writing in her journal – she was always very creative! I admired her and loved her! If you ask anyone from sixth grade, “Who made the best Friendship Beads?” they would say, “Anita Parker!” That girl spent $10 on beads and large gold safety pins and gave them to her friends! I am sure that if I looked around my parents’ house I would find my friendship bead that Anita gave me that I wore on my shoelaces!

Anita’s Autobiography is the sweetest thing I have EVER read! Of all the things you have worked so beautifully to post about Anita, this is by far my very favorite. Thank you so much for sharing some of her childhood with us.
