I think I will continue this week with the music theme. Yesterday I mentioned that I made a mix for Anita in August 2008, so I wanted to focus on those songs that she carefully chose.
Magnet’s “Lay Lady Lay” featuring Gemma Hayes is a cover of a Bob Dylan song. The video is actually kind of bizarre.
This song was used (and introduced to us) in the movie “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as assassins for different “agencies” who don’t know each other’s true profession. One day their agencies find out and then set to have them kill each other. After one mother of a shootout/fight sequence, they realize they are still totally in love and can’t kill each other. This is the song that play at that point.
One of Anita’s secret obsessions was for Brangelina. She read all of the silly news about them online and at the newsstand in Us, People, etc. (although she would never buy any of the magazines). Anita liked them because they were so beautiful – and she said so – and sought to understand their unusual life choices (how many kids to they have now?).
But I imagine that, to Anita, this song represented that moment of realization of true love. At least, that is how I think of it and how I will continue to think of Anita and this song.
