As unto the Lord

Wall post from late 2005:

Service without spirituality is exhausting and hopeless; but in the same respect, spirituality without service is barren and selfish. We need to unite the two and do it all “as unto the Lord”. When we do that, something wonderful happens to out work in the kitchen. Sinks turn into sanctuaries, mops swab holy ground, and daily chores that used to bore us or wear us down become opportunities to express out gratitude – selfless avenues for His grace.

This is a quote from Having Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver (Chapter 6). Althoguh this was written by a woman for women, Anita had me listen to it on audio CD because she thought there was so much one could take from it on serving God.

The discusses how of the sisters who received Jesus, Martha was a “doer” and make sure the food was right and everything was perfect. Mary simply welcomed Jesus in and sat at his feet and listened. Many of us tend to be Martha’s, always trying to do things but never listening to what He is saying to us.

When I saw this wall post and “as unto the Lord”, it immediately reminded me of one of Anita’s journal entries from late August 2005.

What should I do with my life?

The question is not what – but why.

AUTL – As unto the Lord

Paul was a prisoner AUTL.
Brother Lawrence was a dishwasher AUTL.

And look what miracles resulted from that.

Short but poignant. How can one seek something to do in their life without knowing why they do everything? All thing AUTL.
